Gold Coast City Council is under fire for slugging unit owners, living on higher floors of apartment buildings, with massive rate hikes.
The move, dubbed by advocacy groups as a "view tax", hits apartment owners living on the 40th floor or above with a rate increase of up to 50 per cent.
Owner occupiers who live between high-rise levels 21 and 40 have seen their rates rise by up to 40 per cent in the past six months, while rates for those who live on floors 11-20 are up 30 per cent.
